Toxic Relationships

Toxic Relationships

You cannot regulate your nervous system within a toxic relationship.

Not because you aren’t trying hard enough. But because your body does not allow you to relax when it doesn’t feel safe.

🧠 The Nervous System’s Response

The nervous system doesn’t care how much you “love” the other person, nor how logical it is to stay. It only cares about whether you are in danger.

And if you need time alone just to breathe, if you constantly feel tension, hypervigilance, a knot in your stomach, if your body only calms down when the other person is not there… then this is NOT overthinking. It is information.

🛡️ From Survival to Mental Health

You cannot self-regulate when you constantly have to be on the defensive, adapting, or just surviving.

Mental health is not built on affirmations. It is built in environments that do not repeatedly wound you.
